Position Summary: This position provides technical leadership for new product development and business support projects.
You will be responsible for developing, directing, and leading various activities with vendors and cross-functional teams, supporting product development from inception to commercialization.
This position will focus on non-woven substrates and provides technical leadership in innovation, design, and commercialization.
Position Responsibilities: Sr.
Materials Development Scientist Innovate and develop new and improved substrates that align with business objectives, collaborating closely with substrate and upstream material suppliers.
Plan and direct technical project activities, trials, and discussions with raw material suppliers.
Provide internal project updates and engage in discussions with QA, Operations, and Product Management.
Manage project timelines and expectations effectively.
Perform converting process validations and define specification targets and tolerance limits.
Manage the raw material specification approval process.
Partner with various lines of business to create strategies for a range of wipe products.
Identify and evaluate university research/resources and provide recommendations for collaboration on Global Product/Material projects.
Participate in consumer research initiatives to drive the development of next-generation products.
Provide technical information and data support for customer meetings.
Materials Development Scientist Develop, lead, and guide vendor review meetings, and assist in vendor qualification processes.
Direct larger scope projects within your area of expertise, managing discussions, timelines, and expectations of cross-functional teams.
Establish conclusions based on trial data results and make recommendations for current project scope and achievable outcomes.
Provide larger scope onsite trial support and direction at Raw Material Vendors within your area of expertise.
Design DOE (design of experiment) trials and experiments to determine applicable manufacturing specifications acceptable to both our suppliers and internal manufacturing teams.
Provide Global Product/Material operations support as requested.
Evaluate existing patents and initiate the "right to practice" opinion process.
Position Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline is required.
Experience in the nonwovens, paper, or pulp industry in one or more of the following functions: Research and Development, Product or Process Development, Converting, or Engineering.
Sr.
Materials Development Scientist: Requires 10 years’ experience; In lieu of 10 years of experience, willing to consider Master’s degree and 8 years of relevant experience.
Materials Development Scientist: Requires 4 years’ experience; In lieu of 4 years of experience, willing to consider Master’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience.
Background in statistics.
Understand data distributions and how to analyze and apply(Normal, Binomial, Exponential), Hypothesis testing, Understanding Central limit theorem as it relates to developing and setting specifications in manufacturing environments, DOE setup and execution using statistical software.
Complex Problem Solving skills.
Must be able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
Understanding of business systems, category strategy, and be able to recommend nonwovens to deliver on business category needs.
Knowledge of the fiber composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo is a definite plus.
This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
Production and Processing.
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
Previous experience with web handling is highly desired.
