JOB Work with, supervise and instruct other members of the state maintenance personnel in the performance of state maintenance and related work as directed by the Senior Maintenance Manager and WIS DOT Maintenance Coordinator.
Perform yearly evaluations in cooperation with Senior Maintenance Manager.
Participate in management meetings when requested.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Supervise the work of state maintenance personnel in the performance of state maintenance and related work.
Ability to plan, organize, direct, review, and evaluate work of employees.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and working drawings.
Ability to interpret the State of Wisconsin Standard Specifications for road construction.
Maintain and complete comprehensive records and reports.
Working knowledge of excavation, grading and base preparations; compaction specifications; grade staking methods; catch basin, water valve, manhole adjustment techniques; bituminous paving procedures; seal coat and shouldering.
Working knowledge of repairing / replacing safety appurtenances i.

cable guard and guard rail.
Ability to operate required machinery in a safe and productive manner.
Ability to perform related safety requirements and practices of the WI Department of Transportation, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and work zone safety.
Directs compliance of department policies and procedures, has working knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices and ensures safe practices are adhered to.
Working knowledge of forming, pouring, finishing, and curing of different types of concrete.
Operate air hammers and other road maintenance equipment.
Ability to perform related safety requirements and practices of the WI Department of TransportationManual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and Work Zone Safety.
Working knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices.
Capable of driving and operating trucks equipped with plow, wing and sander and also be capable of operating any other equipment required to maintain the section.
Winter maintenance may include but is not limited to removing snow with plows and sands/salts icy roads, and installs, repairs or replace snow fence and vegetation management i.
e.
tree / brush cutting.
Assist Maintenance Supervisors in the preparation of cost estimates for projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Working RelationshipsReports directly to Senior Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Manager, Wisconsin DOT Maintenance Coordinator and Shed Supervisor, reports indirectly to the Transportation Director.
Supervises and interacts with Transportation Department employees, has frequent contact with County employees in other departments, municipal employees, vendors, contractors, and members of the general public.
Work Environment & Physical RequirementsWork is performed in a shed and outdoor settings, including but not limited to construction sites.
Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds, but, must be capable of lifting 100 pounds.
A combination of sitting and standing postures may be required, use of hands, ability to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear.
Specific vision abilities required for this job include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Ability to regularly work five eight-hour days and/or four ten-hour days and the ability to adapt to working non- standard work hours, including weekends, late evenings, early mornings and holidays.
Ability to work in an environment with occasional exposure to unpleasant odors and non-toxic fumes.
Ability to work in an environment with exposure to adverse temperature and/or humidity extremes.
Must be able to operate construction equipment, snow removal equipment, trucks, tools and equipment.
Risk of blood borne pathogen exposure is considered low.
